    • Air Fryer Garlic Bread Recipe

I've been making this cheesy garlic bread since I bought my air fryer a few years ago. It is the perfect side dish to lasagne, spaghetti bolognese or even tomato soup.

Made with homemade garlic butter this crispy garlic bread is so quick to make that I rarely make garlic bread any other way now. Making your own garlic bread is so easy, we love it and it's an easy side dish to many a main course but you can also serve it as an appetiser too.

    🛒 What You'll Need

    Ingredients for garlic bread
    • French Baguette - I use a store-bought French baguette (French bread) for this garlic bread. It will need to be cut into 2-inch slices.
    • Butter - I always use salted butter but if you prefer you can use unsalted butter, just make sure to add a pinch of salt to the garlic butter mixture. The butter needs to be soft before you start making this garlic bread.
    • Parsley - Fresh parsley is best here.
    • Garlic - Again I prefer to use fresh garlic for my garlic bread. You will need about 4 cloves.
    • Cheese - I use Pecorino Romano to add a little cheesiness to my garlic bread. It is optional so you can leave it out if you like but it is nice. If you're not vegetarian you could use parmesan cheese if you like.

🔪 How To Make Air Fryer Garlic Bread

Please see the recipe card for the full ingredients list and full instructions.

    1. Add the softened butter to a small bowl with the chopped fresh parsley, and the minced garlic cloves.

    2. Use a fork to mash the ingredients together until you have a spreadable mixture.

    3. Now spread the mixture over one side of the slices of bread. Sprinkle some of the grated cheese over each slice.

    4. Place the bread in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook at 200°C (395°F) for 5 minutes. The garlic bread should be golden brown and have crispy edges. Leave to cool slightly before serving.

    👩‍🍳 Top Tips

    • The size of your air fryer will dictate how many slices you can cook at one time. I usually get 4 slices in at one time. So you will have to cook this in batches.
    • To keep the air fryer slices warm after the first batch place the garlic bread on a plate and cover it with aluminum foil.
    • If you don't have an air fryer then try my oven-baked ciabatta garlic bread.
    • Depending on the air fryer you have the cooking time may vary.

    🔄 Variations

    • Make it extra cheesy - try adding a little grated mozzarella cheese or cheddar cheese instead of the Pecorino Romano. Mozzarella will give the best results though with lovely melty cheese on buttery garlic bread!
    • Add a little spice - Try adding a small pinch of red pepper flakes to the garlic butter mixture for a little spicy kick.
    • Swap up the herbs - You could try using dried mixed herbs such as Italian seasoning for a different take.

    💭 FAQs

Can I reheat this garlic bread?

Yes, you can. If you have any leftover garlic bread then place the bread in an airtight container once they have cooled to room temperature. Store them in the fridge. To reheat place them in the air fryer and cook at 180°C (355°F) for 2-3 minutes.

Is it ok to freeze this garlic bread?

Yes, it is. The best way to freeze this is to freeze the slices of buttered bread before they are air-fried and before you put the cheese on. Spread the slices of buttered bread in a single layer and place on a baking tray. Place the tray into the freezer and freeze for about an hour. Once the garlic bread has hardened remove it and place the bread slices into a labelled ziploc bag. Return to the freezer and use within 3 months.

Can I air fry this garlic bread from frozen?

Yes. Place the garlic bread in the air fryer and cook them at 200°C (395°F) for 6-7 minutes. If you want to add the cheese I would add it halfway through cooking.

    Ingredients

    • 1 French baguette cut into slices 2 inches thick
    • 50 g (¼ cup) of soft butter I use salted butter. The butter should be at room temperature.
    • 4 cloves of garlic minced or put through a garlic press
    • 2 tablespoon freshly chopped parsley
    • 25 g (4½ tbsp) Pecorino Romano finely grated (optional)
Prevent your screen from going dark

    Instructions

    • Cut the bread into slices, around 2 inches thick.
    • Add the butter to a small bowl. Add the minced garlic and parsley to the bowl.
Use a fork to mash the mixture until you have a spreadable mixture and the ingredients have melded into the butter.
    • Evenly spread the butter over one side of the bread slices.
Sprinkle each slice with the cheese if using.
    • Place the slices of buttered bread on the tray in the air fryer basket. Do not overcrowd the basket.
      Cook for 5 minutes at 200°C (395°F).
You will need to cook these in batches so once the first batch is cooked keep them warm by placing them on a plate and covering it with foil.

    Notes

    • Butter - I use salted Kerrygold butter for this recipe, and all my recipes. (Not an ad)
    • Bread - For best results, I use fresh bread. French baguettes are great for this recipe but you can use other breads such as ciabatta or sourdough loaves.
    • Air Fryer - I have a Ninja Air Fryer Max, a basket-style air fryer. (Not an Ad)
    • Nutritional Information - all nutritional information shared is an estimate based on third-party calculations. If calorie count and/or nutritional values are important to you, we recommend putting the ingredients through whichever online nutritional calculator you prefer. Calories can vary depending on which brands were used. Each recipe and nutritional value will vary depending on the brands you use, measuring methods and portion sizes per household.
    • Weights and measurements - For US readers, I use Cuisipro measuring cups and spoons, and a Pyrex measuring jug for liquids. These are the industry standard. Cup/spoon volumes can differ from brand to brand, for accuracy, I recommend weighing all ingredients if possible for the best results.
